MIDATCO Power carries out the engineering, procurement and construction of clean power systems. The sources of the energy used include solar, wind, bio-mass, bio-fuels, hydro, geo-thermal and ocean waves.

 

PAWA

PAWA, an acronym for Providing Alternative Watts for All, is an international initiative to generate community power for developing countries, particularly those in sub-Saharan Africa. The pioneering effort, PAWA 774, is being implemented for the 774 local government areas (LGAs) of Nigeria.

PAWA 774 is a private sector-led initiative to deploy 10MW of clean, renewable energy power plants to each of the 774 local government areas in Nigeria. When completed PAWA 774 will be generating 7,740MW of clean, eco-friendly electricity, built in clusters of 100KW units, and connected to a local, smart micro-grid mesh providing adequate power to the nation, one community at a time.

PAWA 774 is expected to create 1 million well-paying jobs in diverse professional areas, including engineering, construction, information and communication technologies, business management, call centre support services, operations and more.

TechVille

TechVille is a public-private partnership/technology initiative between the Ondo State government in Nigeria and MIDATCO.

TechVille operates in an eco-friendly, 300-hectare technology park that incorporates the best of 21st-century style in residential, commercial, hospitality, educational, health and recreational facilities.

TechVille is both a living and working environment where basic infrastructural requirements in communications, energy and material supplies are more than sufficient.

Best Energy Homes

Best Energy Homes (BEH) are designed to make maximal use of local materials and passive solar techniques to reduce the energy requirements of the home. The balance of the home's energy requirement is supplied by the appropriate amount of renewable energy.

In designing BEH, a number of factors and tools are taken into consideration, including:

  1. Proper orientation of the house on the lot;
  2. Available historical local weather data;
  3. Use of passive solar techniques;
  4. Selection of the appropriate construction method;
  5. Use of airflow and energy modeling software;
  6. Selection of best building materials;
  7. The overall building envelope;
  8. Selection of an efficient lighting and appliances scheme;
  9. Proper sizing of heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems; and
  10.  Inclusion of renewable energy sources, like solar electric and solar hot water.

BEH uses locally available materials and readily available knowledge of heating/cooling properties of buildings.

Best Energy Homes are smartly designed buildings with self-sufficient and efficient energy capabilities. Special eco-friendly technologies will be developed for the roofs and walls. Smart appliances will be installed to utilize the available renewable energy sources.

Construction methods
Construction methods are selected based on factors such as the local climate, building shape and size, material availability and the stakeholder's preferences.

These methods can involve one or a combination of the following approaches: use of structural insulated panels (SIPS), compressed earth (Adobe or red bricks), metal or wood framing, sandcrete blocks andinsulated concrete forms (ICFs).

Octopus

Octopus builds and operates community-based IP communications networks. We deploy both wireless and fiber-based infrastructure to serve both the internal and external communications needs of the community.

Octopus IP-based communication systems integrate applications dealing with the delivery of text, voice, audio and video data will be implemented for:

  1. Point-to-Point Communications (Deployment of mobile/handheld wireless communications devices);
  2. Wireless Broadcasting (One-to-Many multimedia data delivery);
  3. Remote Event Monitoring  (ability to receive information anytime/anywhere from remote wireless/wireline sending devices);
  4. Video Conferencing (ability to conduct wireless video conferencing using compressed bi-directional multi-media streams);
  5. Pervasive Email Messaging (Anytime/Anywhere email messaging capability).
